How do foods high in fiber help with obesity? The digestive tract is created to hold a certain amount of fecal material. Increasing the intake of fiber provides fewer useable calories to the body and it is bulkier. By having more bulk in the digestive system, the individual will usually eat less food.
They will be fuller longer, also partly due to sugar levels remaining stable. When blood sugar drops, this will send a signal to the brain that the body is hungry. When sugar levels remain at the same level, consistently, a signal is not sent until needed.
Eating more insoluble fiber within the diet will also help the body to obstruct to absorption of dietary fat that is calorie-dense in nature. When eating an apple, or orange, in place of other junk foods the body will provide a way to obstruct the fat in other foods. Food choices should still be lower fat in nature.
